Jalen Wilson
Jalen Wilson hits three 3-pointers, tallies 15
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 4:03 PM
Jalen Wilson amassed 15 points (5-of-7 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, and three 3-pointers in 25 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: Wilson has reached double figures in three of his last four games, with Sunday's point total being one shy of his season-high. He's played consistent rotation minutes, exceeding 20 in seven of the Nets' nine games in November. While that isn't enough to make Wilson a credible fantasy target, he's worth adding to your early “silly season” watch lists.
Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas held in check, scores 16 points vs. NYK
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 4:02 PM
Cam Thomas tallied 16 points (4-of-11 FGs, 7-of-10 FTs), five rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: Thomas' streak of 40-point games at Madison Square Garden ended at two, with the Knicks doing a much better job defending him on Sunday. OG Anunoby received the assignment for most of the night and was a better roadblock than Mikal Bridges on Friday. However, Thomas could be up for another explosive night on Tuesday as the Nets will host the Hornets.
Cameron Johnson
Cameron Johnson scores team-high 22 points Sunday
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 4:02 PM
Cameron Johnson played 31 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Knicks, finishing with 22 points (7-of-12 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), five rebounds, five assists, and four 3-pointers.
Analysis: After scoring 17 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field on Friday, Johnson was more accurate in Sunday's rematch with the Knicks. He's far exceeded his Yahoo ADP (122) over the first four weeks, providing top 50 per-game value in 9-cat formats. The lingering question for Johnson and some of the other Nets veterans is whether or not the front office will look to move some (or all) of them by the February trade deadline. Regardless of what happens, Johnson needs to be rostered everywhere.
Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith hits four triples, scores 16
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 4:01 PM
Dorian Finney-Smith shot 6-of-11 from the field in Sunday's loss to the Knicks, scoring 16 points with four rebounds, two assists, one block, and four 3-pointers in 28 minutes.
Analysis: Finney-Smith had a good weekend at Madison Square Garden, scoring 31 points on 10-of-20 shooting in two losses to the Knicks. While Nic Claxton (back) sitting may not have shifted DFS's place within the rotation as he was already starting, there have been more opportunities for him to get up shots. Rostered in 14% of Yahoo leagues, Finney-Smith has provided top-60 value in 9-cat formats over the last week. Brooklyn plays three games in Week 5, beginning with Charlotte on Tuesday.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams (hip) available Sunday vs. Knicks
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 11:25 AM
Evan Barnes
Ziaire Williams (right hip tightness) is available for Sunday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Williams is good to go and will figure prominently in the Nets' bench rotation. He played 28 minutes in Friday's loss to the Knicks, spending many minutes defending Jalen Brunson. Williams isn't worth the risk in most fantasy leagues, but getting into the high-20s minutes-wise gives him a shot at eventually establishing fantasy relevance.
Trendon Watford
Trendon Watford (hamstring) not on injury report
Sat, Nov 16, 2024, 11:16 AM
Evan Barnes
Trendon Watford (left hamstring strain) is not on the injury report for Sunday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Watford's absence from the Nets' injury report means he can make his season debut on Sunday. Fantasy managers should not expect much from him on Sunday, especially with Ben Simmons being healthy. Look for Watford to play rotation minutes, but he's unlikely to get the run needed to impact fantasy basketball.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams (hip) questionable Sunday vs. NYK
Sat, Nov 16, 2024, 11:14 AM
Evan Barnes
Ziaire Williams (right hip tightness) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Williams played 28 minutes off the bench in Friday's loss to New York, and he was one of the players entrusted with guarding Jalen Brunson. If Williams cannot play in the rematch, fellow reserves Keon Johnson and Shake Milton may pick up additional minutes. However, neither would be worth the risk in most fantasy leagues.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons corrals seven rebounds in spot start
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 4:40 PM
Ben Simmons accounted for four points (2-of-5 FGs), seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal in 25 minutes in Friday's loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: By now, fantasy managers aren't expecting much from Simmons. The rebounds and assists were solid on Friday, but that's about all you'll get from him now. And he wasn't on the court in crunch time, with Ziaire Williams (nine points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one 3-pointer in 28 minutes) being the preferred choice of Nets coach Jordi Fernandez. Simmons is worth rostering while Nic Claxton (back) sits, but fantasy managers must keep their expectations in check.
Cameron Johnson
Cameron Johnson scores 17 but struggles with shot
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 4:40 PM
Cameron Johnson played 36 minutes in Friday's loss to the Knicks, accumulating 17 points (3-of-10 FGs, 10-of-10 FTs), five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 36 minutes.
Analysis: Johnson didn't shoot the ball well from the field, but the foul line bailed him (and fantasy managers) out. He was a perfect ten from the charity stripe, and the rebound, assist, and steal production was also solid. Johnson has been a top-50 player in 9-cat formats over the last two weeks and a top 60 player for the season.
Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith hits four triples, scores 15
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 4:39 PM
Dorian Finney-Smith amassed 15 points (4-of-9 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), four rebounds, three assists, one block, and four 3-pointers in 32 minutes in Friday's loss to New York.
Analysis: Finney-Smith may not be an elite fantasy asset, but he hovers just outside the top 100 in 9-cat formats. He's rostered in 12% of Yahoo leagues, which is a fair number, as DFS isn't doing anything unusual. Finney-Smith's name is one to keep on watch lists, as he stands to be a popular target for playoff teams later this season.
Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas goes off for 43 points vs. Knicks
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 4:39 PM
Cam Thomas shot 16-of-22 from the field and 4-of-6 from the foul line in Friday's loss to the Knicks, scoring a season-high 43 points with two rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block, and seven 3-pointers in 39 minutes.
Analysis: Thomas came out hot and did not cool down in Friday's 124-122 defeat. He scored 27 points in the first half and put up 16 more after halftime to notch his first 40-point game of the season. Even with Thomas committing four turnovers, there was nothing fantasy managers should complain about in the aftermath of this performance. He has scored 40 or more in his last two games at Madison Square Garden, and the teams play again on Sunday.
Ben Simmons
BKN starting Schroder, Thomas, Johnson, DFS, Ben
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 1:17 PM
Brooklyn Nets
Dennis Schroder, Cam Thomas, Cameron Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Ben Simmons will start Friday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: With Finney-Smith back after a two-game absence and Nic Claxton (back) out for at least one week, the Nets have made two changes to their starting lineup. Simmons will fill the void left by Claxton, while Finney-Smith's return bumps Ziaire Williams to the bench.
Nic Claxton
Nic Claxton (back) out at least a week
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 8:44 AM
Erik Slater on Twitter
According to Nets beat writer Erik Slater, Nic Claxton has been diagnosed with a lower back strain and will be re-evaluated in a week.
Analysis: Claxton will sit out Friday against New York, and we should get an update on his status on or around November 22. With Claxton sidelined, Ben Simmons should slide into the starting center spot. Dorian Finney-Smith has been upgraded to available, and both he and Noah Clowney could see some extra playing time as well.
Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle) probable Friday vs. NY
Thu, Nov 14, 2024, 11:10 AM
Ian Begley
Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle sprain) is probable for Friday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Having missed Brooklyn's last two games, Finney-Smith is on track to return Friday night. That would push Ziaire Williams to the bench after he had one of the best games of his career in Wednesday's loss to the Celtics. Williams' fantasy value would take a hit, but his name is one to keep on your watch list as early preparation for “silly season.”
Nic Claxton
Nic Claxton (back) questionable Friday vs. Knicks
Thu, Nov 14, 2024, 11:06 AM
Ian Begley
Nic Claxton (low back tightness) is questionable for Friday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Due to the Nets being on the wrong end of a blowout, Claxton only played 24 minutes in Wednesday's loss to Boston. If he cannot play against the Knicks, Ben Simmons would be a good candidate to fill the resulting void in the starting lineup, boosting his fantasy value. Noah Clowney would also be in line for additional playing time.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons (calf) absent from injury report
Thu, Nov 14, 2024, 11:03 AM
Ian Begley
Ben Simmons (left calf tightness) is not on the injury report for Friday's game against the Knicks.
Analysis: Simmons is back after sitting out Wednesday's loss to the Celtics. With Nic Claxton considered questionable for Friday's game, Simmons could be back in the starting lineup. That would boost his fantasy value, but he remains a deep-league option at best.
Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas held to 17 points in loss to Boston
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:34 PM
Cam Thomas had a quiet night on Wednesday with 17 points (5-of-11 FGs), three rebounds, three assists, one steal and three 3-pointers against the Celtics.
Analysis: Thomas has been a scoring machine all season, but the last two games have been quieter. He played a season-low 28 minutes in this game, and he took just 11 shots, which was his second-lowest mark of the year. The lowest came on Monday night, when he shot just 10 times. Thomas has been awesome this year, but if he isn't seeing the same volume of shots, his value will tamk quickly. He's still a top-100 player in 9-cat leagues, but more performances like this will tank that quickly.
Dennis Schroder
Dennis Schroder puts up 16/4/3/1 line in loss
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:28 PM
Dennis Schroder finished with 16 points (6-of-10 FGs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal and two triples against Boston on Wednesday.
Analysis: This was a second straight quieter performance from Schroder, though he didn't play poorly. He made 60% of his shots and only turned it over once, but he just didn't contribute much in the box score. Schroder still ranks in the top-50 in 9-cat leagues, but his numbers are starting to regress back to what we have expected from him in recent years. Schroder should still be a solid option for the rest of the season, but he is cooling off after a scorching hot start.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams scores season-high 23 points
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:21 PM
Ziaire Williams led the Nets with 23 points (8-of-14 FGs), six rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and two 3-pointers in a 139-114 loss to Boston on Wednesday.
Analysis: Williams got a second straight start in this game and after nearly recording a double-double on Monday, he followed that up by setting a new season-high for scoring in the loss. The former top ten pick was traded to the Nets this summer after falling out of favor in Memphis, and he has taken advantage of his fresh start on a rebuilding team. If Dorian Finney-Smith continues to miss time, Williams should have some streaming appeal, as long as he remains part of the starting unit.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons, Dorian Finney-Smith out Wednesday
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 11:48 AM
Ian Begley
Ben Simmons (left calf tightness) and Dorian Finney-Smith (left ankle sprain) are out for Wednesday's game against the Celtics.
Analysis: While Simmons' absence frees up additional bench minutes, Finney-Smith sitting means the Nets must also fill a spot in the starting lineup. Jalen Wilson and Keon Johnson are two players who should play more, along with Noah Clowney. Of the three, Clowney offers the highest fantasy upside.
