Dorian Finney-Smith
Dorian Finney-Smith (calf) now questionable Sat.
Sat, Dec 21, 2024, 5:55 AM
Erik Slater
Dorian Finney-Smith (left calf contusion) has been added to the injury report as questionable for Saturday's matchup with the Jazz.
Analysis: DFS wasn't initially on the injury report, but there is now a chance that he is sidelined for this game. Jalen Wilson should make a return to the starting unit if Finney-Smith is forced to sit out.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons records 12/5/7 line vs. Raptors
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 4:08 PM
Ben Simmons notched 12 points (5-of-9 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs) with five rebounds and seven assists against the Raptors.
Analysis: Simmons paced Brooklyn in assists once again with Dennis Schroder is our of the picture. He's been a double-digit scorer in each of his last two games and could be free to open up a little more of his own offense as the Nets' primary playmaker while Cam Thomas is recovering.
Cameron Johnson
Cameron Johnson racks up 27 points vs. Raptors
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 3:57 PM
Cameron Johnson amassed 32 points (9-of-15 FGs, 10-of-11 FTs) with 10 rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and four three-pointers against the Raptors on Thursday.
Analysis: Johnson has now scored at least 22 points in four of his previous five games. He's been asked to fill it up with Cam Thomas out and Dennis Schroder on a new team. Fantasy managers should expect frequent scoring outbursts from Johnson given the Nets' current roster.
Nic Claxton
Nic Claxton ejected for throwing ball vs. Raptors
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 2:25 PM
Nic Claxton has been ejected for throwing the ball into the stands during the second quarter of Thursday's Nets-Raptors game.
Analysis: Claxton chucked a ball into the stands after being fouled on a fast break against the Raptors and was ejected shortly after. The Nets center amassed seven points and five rebounds in 11 minutes before exiting the contest. His removal from the game could make room for Day'Ron Sharpe to pay a little more in the second half.
Trendon Watford
Trendon Watford (hamstring) out at least one week
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 11:51 AM
Trendon Watford (left hamstring soreness) is set to miss at least one week for the Brooklyn
Analysis: It appears like Watford is set to miss at least four games due to his hamstring tightness. Noah Clowney will be among the players who'll get more of a chance to dominate reserve forward minutes while he recovers.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams (knee) returns to on-court work
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 11:47 AM
Meghan Triplett
Ziaire Williams (left knee sprain) has progressed to on-court contact work and is expected to return to team activities next week.
Analysis: Williams has missed the team's last five games, but he's inching closer to a return. He will miss Thursday's game in Toronto and should be out against the Jazz on Saturday and likely against the Heat on Monday. Keon Johnson has been starting in his place and will likely be pushed to the bench when Williams returns.
Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas (hamstring) to be re-evaluated Saturday
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 11:47 AM
Collin Helwig
Cam Thomas (left hamstring strain) is progressing in his recovery and will be re-evaluated this weekend.
Analysis: The Nets have been without Thomas since November 25, when he pulled up lame during the third quarter of a win over the Warriors. Given the update on when he'll be re-evaluated, the Nets guard will likely miss at least two more games, which doesn't include the potential need for ramp-up time. With Dennis Schroder no longer in the equation, Thomas' fantasy value could skyrocket once he's cleared to return.
Trendon Watford
Trendon Watford (hamstring) out vs. Raptors
Wed, Dec 18, 2024, 7:00 AM
Trendon Watford (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's Nets-Raptors games.
Analysis: Watford is back on the shelf after tweaking his hamstring against the Cavaliers. Noah Clowney has a chance to capitalize on his absence.
Day'Ron Sharpe
Day'Ron Sharpe posts 15/7/1/3 stat line in 20 MIN
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 4:32 PM
Day'Ron Sharpe finished Monday's loss to Cleveland with 15 points (5-of-10 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), seven rebounds, one assist, three steals, and one 3-pointer in 20 minutes.
Analysis: Having begun the season on the sideline due to a hamstring injury, Sharpe has not been on the fantasy radar. However, he has reached double figures in two straight games, with Monday's performance being his best of the season. There's no need to add Sharpe now, but with the Nets trading Dennis Schroder on Sunday, they may be getting a head start on the “silly season.” Sharpe's name is one to file away for later in the season.
Jalen Wilson
Jalen Wilson hits four triples, scores 13 points
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 4:31 PM
Jalen Wilson accounted for 13 points (4-of-11 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), one rebound, two assists, two steals, and four 3-pointers in 29 minutes in Monday's loss to Cleveland.
Analysis: Wilson has reached double figures in three of his last four games, providing 11th-round value in 9-cat formats over the past week. He isn't someone who fantasy managers should feel obligated to add immediately. But, games against Toronto (Thursday) and Utah (Saturday) to end Week 8 make him worth a look, even with those being the busiest days of the week.
Cameron Johnson
Cameron Johnson leads Nets with 22 points in loss
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 4:31 PM
Cameron Johnson shot 5-of-10 from the field and 9-of-13 from the foul line in Monday's loss to Cleveland, amassing 22 points, one rebound, five assists, one blocked shot, and three 3-pointers in 28 minutes.
Analysis: Dennis Schroder's trade to Golden State impacts the entire Nets rotation, including Johnson. He will have to do more scoring, and there will also be more opportunities to make plays for others. Johnson led the Nets in scoring and was second on the team in assists on Monday, with only Ben Simmons (seven) having more. Unless Johnson were to be traded, he'll be a valuable fantasy option for the foreseeable future.
Ben Simmons
Ben Simmons drops 10 points, seven assists Monday
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 4:30 PM
Ben Simmons played 30 minutes in Monday's 130-101 loss to the Cavaliers, scoring 10 points (4-of-7 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs) with four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
Analysis: Simmons took over the primary playmaker responsibilities on Monday, as the Nets traded Dennis Schroder to the Warriors on Sunday. Simmons's rebounds, assists, and steals were solid, but he also committed six turnovers. A difficult player to trust in fantasy basketball due to past availability issues, Simmons remains available in 78% of Yahoo leagues. Monday's performance wasn't excellent, but he deserves consideration in deep leagues.
Trendon Watford
Trendon Watford (hamstring) will not return Monday
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 3:16 PM
Meghan Triplett
Trendon Watford (left hamstring soreness) will not return to Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
Analysis: Watford played 10 minutes before his hamstring flared up, with the Nets ruling him out for the rest of the night early in the third quarter. He finishes with eight points and one 3-pointer, shooting 2-of-3 from the field and 3-of-3 from the foul line. Noah Clowney may pick up additional minutes if Watford misses time beyond Monday.
Ben Simmons
BKN starting Simmons, Keon, Cam J., DFS, Claxton
Mon, Dec 16, 2024, 1:08 PM
NBA Lineups
Ben Simmons, Keon Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Nic Claxton will start Monday's game against Cleveland.
Analysis: The Nets' decision to trade Dennis Schroder to the Warriors on Sunday left a sizable void in the starting lineup. Simmons will fill it, starting as the Nets' primary playmaker. His insertion into the starting lineup is the lone change made by Jordi Fernandez, and fantasy managers should also see more of Shake Milton off the bench.
Cam Thomas
Cam Thomas (hamstring) to remain sidelined Monday
Sun, Dec 15, 2024, 10:25 AM
Collin Helwig
Cam Thomas (left hamstring strain) will not play in Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
Analysis: Thomas has not appeared in a game since injuring his hamstring during a November 25 win over the Warriors. With the Nets trading Dennis Schroder to the Warriors, even more offense will run through Cameron Johnson, with Ben Simmons taking on more playmaking responsibilities.
Ziaire Williams
Ziaire Williams (knee) out Monday vs. Cavaliers
Sun, Dec 15, 2024, 10:17 AM
Ziaire Williams (left knee sprain) is out for Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
Analysis: This will be Williams' fifth straight missed game. Keon Johnson will continue to start for the Nets until Williams returns. He could return soon as he's been participating in practice recently.
De'Anthony Melton
Shams: Nets acquire De'Anthony Melton, draft picks
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 12:57 PM
ESPN
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Nets have acquired De'Anthony Melton and three second-round picks from the Warriors.
Analysis: Even with Brooklyn's surprising start to the season, this has been one of the teams many expected to be sellers between December 15 and the trade deadline. The Nets have begun the clearout, dealing Dennis Schroder and a second-round pick to Golden State in exchange for Melton and three future seconds. Melton will not play again this season after undergoing surgery in November to repair a sprained left ACL. With him due to be a free agent this summer, the trade will clear up cap space if the Nets do not re-sign Melton in July. Shake Milton should play more minutes in the short term, but fantasy managers should not rush to add him.
Dennis Schroder
Shams: Warriors pursuing Dennis Schroder via trade
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 10:19 AM
Shams Charania
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Warriors are in “serious pursuit” of Nets point guard Dennis Schroder.
Analysis: While the Warriors started the season well, their recent downturn has shown a need to improve their roster. One area that needs an upgrade is perimeter playmaking, which would lessen some pressure on Stephen Curry. Schroder is reportedly under serious consideration, with the NBA's trade window opening on December 15. Schroder has been an excellent fantasy asset this season, and a move to a team looking to compete for a championship now would protect him from a potential late-season shutdown.
Jalen Wilson
Jalen Wilson records 15/2/4/2 line vs. Memphis
Fri, Dec 13, 2024, 4:55 PM
Jalen Wilson played 29 minutes in Friday's loss to the Grizzlies, accumulating 15 points (5-of-13 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), two rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers.
Analysis: Brooklyn's stat line featured balanced scoring, with eight players scoring between 12 and 19 points. Wilson was included in that group, with the 15 points being the most in a game since November 25 (18 vs. Golden State). While the minutes have been there for Wilson, the production hasn't been good enough for him to merit being rostered in most fantasy leagues.
Dennis Schroder
Dennis Schroder records 15 points, eight assists
Fri, Dec 13, 2024, 4:54 PM
Dennis Schroder logged 26 minutes in Friday's loss to Memphis, scoring 15 points (6-of-10 FGs) with three rebounds, eight assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers.
Analysis: Schroder shot the ball well and provided eight assists, but he was also responsible for six turnovers in Friday's defeat. The good news for fantasy managers is that high-turnover nights haven't been the norm this season, with this being the sixth game of four or more for the Nets point guard. Schroder remains ranked well within the top 100 in 8- and 9-cat formats, exceeding his Yahoo ADP (138). Finished for this week, the Nets begin a three-game Week 8 (Yahoo leagues) with a home game against the Cavaliers on Monday.
